Dried Schisandra Berries
Five-flavoured berry central to Chinese tonic tradition
Price range: £3.99 through £29.99
Schisandra is a climbing vine native to northern China and is one of the most revered tonic herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The berries are remarkable for containing all five flavours — sweet sour salty bitter and pungent — which in TCM theory means they act on all five organ systems. Traditionally used as an adaptogenic tonic and for longevity they are prepared as a decoction or made into a syrup or wine in Chinese tradition.
