Psyllium husk comes from the seeds of Plantago ovata a plant native to India where it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The husks are rich in soluble fibre which absorbs water to form a gel. Traditionally known as Isabgol in Ayurveda it was used as a gentle means of supporting bowel regularity. When using psyllium husk it is important to take it with plenty of water.
