Mugwort is one of the oldest and most traditionally significant herbs in European folk medicine with uses going back to pre-Christian times. It was sacred to travellers in Anglo-Saxon tradition said to protect against fatigue. In Chinese medicine mugwort moxa is burned in the practice of moxibustion a form of heat therapy. It has a strong aromatic sage-like scent and was used as a herb for the digestion in traditional European herbalism.
