Skullcap is a perennial herb native to North America where it was used by several Native American tribes for ceremonial purposes and healing. It was later incorporated into American eclectic medicine in the 19th century and became one of the most popular nervine herbs in Western herbalism. Traditional herbalists used it for its calming properties in cases of nervous tension and sleep difficulties. It has a mild slightly bitter taste.
